How I prepare my skin for my birthday month (and Valentine’s) — without the post-celebration regret XOXO Lourette

February is my birthday month 🎂
And because my birthday lands early (9 Feb) — right before another big, make-up-heavy, dessert-filled event (hello Valentine’s 💋) — I don’t leave my skin prep to chance.

I want smooth, dewy, confident skin that photographs beautifully and behaves itself afterwards. No rebound breakouts. No barrier tantrums. No “why did I do that to my skin?” moment in March.

My golden rule?
👉 A strong skin barrier going into special occasions means your skin can enjoy the moment — and recover gracefully afterwards.

Let me walk you through exactly how I prep — and how you can simplify this for your own skin.

Step 1: Think months ahead (this is the secret sauce)

Great birthday skin isn’t a last-minute facial — it’s a timeline.

About 3 months before February, I accelerate what my skin already loves most: resurfacing with respect.

My hero treatment:

HALO

HALO is hands-down my favourite way to reset texture, tone and glow — because it works deep and superficial at the same time. Other Options would be BOXI or Profractional.

I usually combine HALO with:

  • BBL

  • MOXI

  • Exosomes (for recovery + collagen signalling)

📍 Areas I treat: Face, neck and chest
Think of this like refreshing the canvas before the art show.

Step 2: Don’t forget the back (February is warm, after all)

February in South Africa = heat, holidays, safari life 🐘
And yes… open-back dresses are non-negotiable.

This is where MOXI on my back comes in.

  • Refines texture

  • Improves tone

  • Keeps skin looking even and healthy in the sun-safe way we love

Back skin deserves main-character energy too.

Step 3: Build glow, gently but consistently

Once my resurfacing is done, I shift into maintenance + radiance mode.

My go-to combo:

HERO+

  • At least two sessions, 4 weeks apart

  • Face, neck and chest

  • Sometimes with a PRXPlus session in between

This phase is all about:
✔ Supporting collagen
✔ Strengthening the barrier
✔ Keeping inflammation low
✔ Letting skin behave through makeup, late nights and indulgence

Step 4: Hands matter (they always give you away)

While my face is glowing, my hands don’t get left behind.

For maintenance and freshness:

  • BBL HEROic

  • ClearSilk

Hands are treated frequently and gently

Step 5: One week before — subtle, strategic boost

About 7 days before my birthday, I apply Cosmelan 2.

This isn’t aggressive — it’s a final nudge to cellular renewal, brightness and clarity.

And the evening before?
I never skip my Retiflash peel. It’s my skin’s version of a good night’s sleep.

Step 6: Between birthday & Valentine’s — less is more

This is where restraint becomes the real luxury.

Between my birthday and Valentine’s:

  • No strong actives

  • No unnecessary stimulation

  • Lots of moisture

  • Plenty of sleep

  • Water like it’s my job 💧

This is how skin stays dewy without consequences.

Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t.

Here’s the most important thing I want you to know:

You don’t need to do everything.
Every skin is different — and it changes all the time.
There are always options.

Think of skin prep like hair:

  • You wouldn’t bleach the day before a wedding

  • You’d prep, treat, tone, and protect — then style effortlessly

At Dermology, we tailor this timeline to your skin, your lifestyle and your calendar — so you can enjoy the celebrations and the months that follow.

Because looking good in photos is great…
But loving your skin afterwards is the real flex. 💚
