This is one of the most basic human instincts that form part of our day to day lives. We compare everything, from what works out more cost effective to which route to drive home to avoid traffic, so it’s only natural to compare ourselves to others, but are we really doing a fair comparison?

What makes my skin different?

When it comes to skin, yes, we all have it, structurally they all have the same ‘working parts’, but everyone has a uniqueness that contributes to how their skin will look and feel according to genetics, lifestyle and a history that may have created trauma to the skin, changing the overall structure of skin over a period of time. It would be unrealistic to assume that we all have walked the exact same path in life leading to hyper-pigmentation, scars and aging of the skin.

For this reason, we often suggest that you look at your own skin as a ‘one of a kind’ that will always look, feel and react differently to any other skin out there. When we assess the skin prior to treatment we look at all of your personal variables that make your skin what it is today. This allows us to put together a treatment plan designed specifically for you to target and treat your skin concerns and not those of our friend as well.

Why didn’t my skin react the same way?

No two skins are exactly the same (even twins). There are too many variables involved that can directly affect a patient result achieved from each treatment such as –

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Genetics
  • Hormones
  • Stress
  • Lifestyle & diet
  • Skin Fitzpatrick
  • Skin type
  • Skincare products
  • Sun exposure
  • Sports & leisure activities

Results will always vary person to person, but it will also vary treatment to treatment as your skin changes along the way. We encourage you to look at this as a good thing as your skin becomes less damaged, thicker and stronger from all the dedication you have given to your treatment plan.

What you go into your treatment journey with will determine what results will come out from it too. A fair comparison of the skin is difficult to make as we have established, so make sure to only compare apples with those grown from your own tree.
