You will never forget your first time, under the laser that is. There is nothing quite like that feeling of anticipation, the cool gel on your skin and that tingly sunburn sensation following treatment. You watch your skin recover afterwards and feel pretty prepared now for what’s to come with the next round of treatment. However, your skin doesn’t look the same way it did after your first treatment, did something go wrong? were the settings not high enough? Let’s explore why your skin possibly didn’t react the same way you expected it to.
Why didn’t my skin react the same way?
We often refer to your very first treatment as a ‘Kodak moment’. The skin usually has not yet been ‘touched’ by any laser before this moment and will go through a variety of new sensations and changes for the very first time. Once the skin has however been treated, it has then started its journey to evolve into a newer and better version of itself. It uplifts excess pigmentation, reduces redness and has the potential to purge itself of underlying congestion in the skin as well, all with the aim of creating a brighter and healthier skin. When you continue with your treatment journey and have your second treatment done, your skin is not the same
skin that came in for its first treatment and for that exact reason, will not respond in the exact same way as what it once did, which in reality, is a good thing. Our goal is for your skin to continue to improve and better itself with each and every treatment received. If your skin were to respond like what it did in the beginning, we sadly would not be making progress and would basically be running around in circles. Some treatments, no matter how many times it is done, may not deliver the results you may be looking for and it may be time to explore other treatment options to add variety to your skin care journey.
Where to next?
As part of every ‘to do’ list, we tick things off along the way, usually starting from the most important, working our way down to the very least. This is the case when working through your list of skin concerns, we start with the those of high priority and are most bothersome and then move onto areas that will require either additional treatment in order to see improvement or maintain the results you have already achieved through your initial course of treatment.
Once you are happy with your initial improvement, opportunities are created thereafter for you to explore other treatment options that will add variety to your skin journey to help in achieving more improvement and to treat other concerns that your initial treatment may not have effectively targeted. This is why we find it important to reassess the skin throughout your treatment plan to ensure that we are on track with achieving your skin goals or is it may be time to start adding in other lasers/peels to create a well-rounded treatment plan to help you to get the best results.
Each laser targets and treats a specific or variety of skin concerns, making it difficult to sometimes get to all concerns seen on one’s skin in a single treatment. This is why we encourage combination treatments to get the most benefit out of each session and to be able to treat more than one concern at a time. The improvement achieved can depend entirely on how much work is put in. This will all depend on what the skin looked like initially and how severe the damage is that needed to be treated. Patience, consistency and maintenance are the key ingredients to creating Beautiful, long lasting results.
Our goal for your skin, is to work hand in hand with you to guide you along the right treatment path to help you achieve your skin goals. It really is a remarkable journey to see how your skin changes along the way and to remember how far it has come from when you first started. It is essential for the skin to change along the way in order to move forward onto bigger and better treatments.
